First-Time Cat Parents Find The Purrfect Match With Gentle And Shy Kitten

For many cat people, it’s hard for us to recall the precise moment that cats first entered our lives. But if there’s one thing I know, it’s that for some people, they must wait till the timing is purrfectly right. For one stunning Snowshoe mix kitten, what he didn’t know was that there were two amazing humans anxiously awaiting the purrfect cat to come along so that they could officially become cat parents. They waited patiently until they knew the timing was right, keeping their eyes open for the one they knew was meant to be there. And, as they say, the rest is history!

How did Mocha come into your life?

We always knew we wanted to adopt a cat once we had the space for it. When that day came, we eagerly started searching… PetFinder, local shelters, PetSmart & PetCo, but nothing felt quite right or resonated with us. Some cats were adopted faster than we could blink; others just didn’t click, or required a cat/dog already in the home. Eventually, we felt like we were trying too hard and decided to pause our search, trusting that the best things come naturally. 

Then one day, on a whim, we looked again and there he was. Listed as “Oliver”, something about him stood out to us. We quickly reached out to his foster parent to introduce ourselves and ask about his personality. We both loved what we heard, so we set up a meeting. This is our first cat, so we were both so nervous and excited! We stopped at our local PetSmart and Target to pick up essentials, like a bed, treats, a scratcher, grooming supplies, and a variety of toys, then headed to the rescue center to meet him. Those Jackson Galaxy videos helped a lot when preparing.

It was finally time to meet him, and he was shy, easily startled, and even tooting from how nervous he was lol, but this all only made him more endearing. When his foster parent stepped out of the room, he quietly sat down and waited. That moment told us everything; we saw ourselves in him. Very quiet, observant, gentle… it was a perfect match. We expressed how much we would love to give him an affectionate and respectful forever home. He was a total wallflower when he got to his new home, but we let him warm up on his own with our support, and he now walks around like he owns the place! So confident! Mocha is now and furever our family, this was the right and best decision ever, he has been rightfully spoiled ever since. 

How did Mocha get his name?

Mocha’s human mom is an espresso enthusiast, and his fur color palette reminds me of a sweet mocha latte with a splash of milk: he has light brown swirls on his back, similar to when the espresso and milk start dancing in a cup, shiny crema white socks, boots, chin and neck resembling a bandana, a deep dark seal point patterned mask and beautiful blended ombre shift between all his dark and light points. He is very unique and always looks like he just came back from a professional salon appointment! 

Mocha’s human dad inspired his last name, Wayne, pointing out that his black-shaded mask, framing his icy blue eyes, totally makes him look like Batman! Once you see it, you can’t unsee it! He wanted to name him Batman, but he responded to Mocha more! So Mocha it is! 

He looks to be a Siamese or Snowshoe cat. Is he rather vocal like these cat breeds?

Mocha definitely has the Siamese Snowshoe look. His glowing blue eyes, snow white socks and boots, and classic Siamese shading all point to a Snowshoe/Siamese. Since he is a rescue, we don’t fully know his exact breed mix, but everything about him fits this profile. Siamese cats are the only ones with true blue eyes, and Mocha’s are absolutely stunning. 

He is VERY vocal, but in a soft, expressive tone. Think of a newborn’s quiet cry, low but clear. He meows when we get home, when we leave the bathroom, or when he just wants to chat. He even often chirps to himself. He also has different tones for different messages. When we call his name, he always turns and responds with a little “huhhh?” He runs to greet us with his tail straight up, brushing against our leg, stretching, and meowing like it’s his personal welcome routine. He is the cutest!

What’s his personality like? 

Mocha is curious, sweet, and gentle. He is very shy around new people but very affectionate with us. He always inspects a room carefully before settling down. He often watches the front door from a small distance and looks outside with interest, but shows no desire to leave. We tried taking him for walks in a secure cat backpack with a harness, but he clearly prefers being indoors. He is a true homebody like his human parents. 

People often say Siamese cats are known to be destructive and mean, but Mocha is the opposite. Aside from his silly zoomies (he is a different being during zoomies), he has never destroyed furniture or caused us big trouble. He is smart, kind, and polite. Even during bath time, which he does not enjoy, he has never scratched or bitten us despite wanting to get out of the tub. He simply endures it because he trusts us. 

He is also a nonstop purring machine. One look and a small nod in his direction gets him purring, belly up, with his paw gently tapping our hands for more attention. He sometimes gives hugs and nose kisses, too. He is still a cat with his own instincts and preferences, and we fully respect that. We love the special bond we’ve built with him.

Does he have any other cat or dog housemates at home? 

Mocha is currently an only cat, and he seems to prefer it that way. He enjoys playing independently and having his space. We may consider a sibling in the future, but for now, he’s thriving as the king of the house.

What are his favorite hobbies? 

Mocha loves chasing spring toys, batting anything string-like, running laps up and down stairs, chilling on the highest point of his cat tree, sunbathing in cardboard boxes, exploring, stretching, receiving forehead kisses, and demanding chin scratches! We hope to soon get him a window perch with a bird feeder outside the window to further add enrichment.

What’s something unique people should know about him? 

There is so much uniqueness about Mocha! We love that he makes us biscuits daily… yes, daily… many and many biscuits. 

He also refuses wet food. Maybe we just haven’t found the right one yet, but we tried many. He always begs and gets excited for his crunchy kibble and ignores the wet food, but he drinks plenty of water from his fountain, so hydration is covered.  His snack obsessions consist of churros, purr pops, and anything crunchy with a soft center. 

He is turning one soon, and we can’t believe how quickly time has flown.
