For one sprightly cat out of Toronto, Ontario, he’s got a thing for exploring the great outdoors. We know that some house cats crave more than cat trees and stuffed catnip toys, and Archer is certainly one of those cats. I found him while cruising on Instagram, and was instantly smitten with his adventurous spirit combined with cute cat looks. If you love curious cats, then something tells me that Archer is right up your alley. I caught up with Archer’s owner, and she shared with me the story of her adventurous kitty cat.
How did Archer come into your life?
When my fiancé and I moved into our new home, we thought it was time to get a pet! We were initially thinking of a dog but realized that our schedule wouldn’t be able to accommodate the feeding and walking times. So naturally, we thought a cat would be easier for our home as they are more independent as a pet.
Fast forward, we were visiting our local shelters looking to adopt a cat. To our surprise, all the cats were being adopted quite quickly and we couldn’t find one that was right for us. Luckily, on our way back from visiting Montreal, we ended up finding a barn owner who had just rescued a litter of kittens. I contacted her and found Archer playing with his tiny siblings. I immediately fell in love with him as he was purring in my arms. That’s when I have decided to bring him home.
How did Archer get his name?
Archer has always been such an energetic, fearless, and playful cat. Whenever I put a wand in front of him, he would be laser-focused to chase the target until he gets it. The funny story was that when he first came to our home, we had a cupboard with a nest of moths inside, he was ecstatic to go inside and hunt for the moths.
As a result, “Hunter” was the first name that came to our minds for him, but we thought the name was very common amongst pets. So we picked “Archer” instead. It represents him perfectly – very sharp, quick, and smart.
What is his personality like?
Archer is definitely a very sociable cat. He loves humans and interacts with others. In addition, he is also incredibly curious, energetic, and brave. All of these personalities have made him a great adventure cat whenever we take him to new places.
How did you realize he had a taste for adventure?
I always knew Archer would be great for adventures due to his curious and brave personality. When he first came to our home, we were following suggestions to keep him in an enclosed area for a week to make sure he is comfortable with the new environment. Surprisingly, Archer wanted to get out of the washroom on the second day of his arrival! He started pawing at the door and even tried to sneak out when we leave the room.
We knew right away that he’s far off from being shy or timid in new environments. Given that he loved to explore inside the house, we thought it would be a great opportunity for him to take his adventures beyond the house.
Does he have any other cat or dog housemates at home?
Archer doesn’t have any other pet siblings at home. He’s lucky to be an only child who gets all the attention!
What are his favorite hobbies?
Some of Archer’s favourite hobbies are hiking, playing zoomies, and observing the world from his cat tree. He always squeaks with joy when he is allowed out to the backyard so that he can tentatively guard his two corners of the garden. He’s the happiest when we go for a stroll in the neighbourhood or visit our local pet stores. He just loves to be near people and see what’s going on around him.
What’s something special you’d like people to know about Archer?
Archer is special to me because he is my first pet. His eyes light up like a cute curious “kitten” when he is exploring or when he did something wrong. No matter how we are at home, he will always forgive and forget us after being told “no”. He’s definitely a cat who has defied many stereotypes of cats. He’s always friendly, brave, and affectionate; wants to play and be loved.
I’d like to give a special “thank you'” to Archer’s owner, Vivian, for allowing me to share her kitty’s cute photos and story with all of the Cattitude Daily readers. For more on Archer, visit his Instagram and blog.
