Maine Coon Cat Named Mr. Pugsley Addams Crowned With The World’s Longest Tail

You don’t have to be an expert on all things cats to know that Maine Coon cats are seriously large. It might come as a surprise to learn that these cats have short legs in comparison to their body size, but when it comes to their purrfectly fluffy tails, those aren’t short whatsoever. There are many maine coon cats out there that are so long, they’ve become tails of epic records.

For one two-year-old Maine Coon cat out of Mound, Minnesota, he was recently crowned with the world’s longest cat tail. The magnificent Maine Coon, adorably named Mr. Pugsley Addams, lives with the Cameron family and three other equally beautiful Maine Coon cats. His cat mom, Amanda, told the Guinness World Records, “The first time I took him to the vet, he walked in and said, ‘That is a REALLY long tail.’ And I looked at it, really looked at it, and I thought…‘Yeah…it kind of is, isn’t it?’”

So, just how long is Pugsley the cat’s tail? Well, it is officially measured at 18.5 cm (46.99 cm). And if that doesn’t seem long, take into consideration that the average cat tail is typically 12” in length. But, as I mentioned above, Maine Coon cats are known for being larger than your average cat, with the average Maine Coon cat tail measuring in around 14”. So, yeah, that’s a whole lot of tail—over a foot and a half of glorious, record-worthy fluff! According to USA Today, “The title was previously held by a 4-year-old silver Tabby Maine Coon from Seattle named Rajah Shimko, whose tail is about 2 inches shorter than Pugsley’s. Shimko held the title for only three weeks.”

GWR couldn’t help but wonder if Pugsley is aware of just how long his tail is—and I think that’s a natural thing to wonder. Amanda says that, “I definitely think he is aware of his long tail. It does get in the way, especially when he is excited, and it is standing straight up when I’m trying to feed him and so it’s in my face,” said Amanda. When we are cooking, you will always find him laying down on the tile floor, dead centre in the kitchen. With four cats, you learn to have some awareness of where their tail ‘should’ be, so you don’t step on it, but in situations like that… Those don’t apply to Pugsley, because his tail is another foot or so longer than where you think it would be!”

His loving cat siblings, Winnie, Duchess, and Gomez, don’t seem to mind all the attention their record-breaking cat brother is receiving. And they kindly share their oversized cat tree with their “mischievous” cat brother. Pugsley’s cat mom told GWR that Pugsley’s daily routine is quite simple: “Eat. Beg. Eat. Sleep. Beg. Eat. Sleep. Eat. Beg. Play fetch. Eat. Sleep.”

When it comes to personality, it seems that Pugsley the cat has got cattitude for days—unlike his lovebug cat brother, Gomez.

“Gomez is violently affectionate and romantic, he wants nothing more than to cuddle in the nook of your arm and stare deep into your eyes while he drags his claws down your cheek,” she said, just like the classic Addams family patriarch. But Pugsley, on the other hand (or paw, that is) definitely takes after Wednesday’s little brother…. Little Pugsley is incredibly curious, adventurous and smart. He is definitely the biggest troublemaker of the house and VERY creative when it comes to new ways he can be mischievous,” she said. “And yet, he is kind and caring and loves his momma.”

Amanda shared that Puglsey is not a skittish kitty, and this outgoing feline has a heart of gold. It should come as no surprise that he’s quickly drawing attention—and fans! He’s quickly turning heads in Minnesota and steadily gaining fans worldwide. Because, after all, what cat lover can resist the world’s longest cat tail!

“Everybody always wants to meet him, and falls in love with his calm demeanor. He is pretty level-headed, even in new situations that might be scary for some cats,” she said. “He is super soft, and is always purring. He’s just a great little guy to be around. When we go out and about, they call him a ‘local celebrity!’”
