We live in a world that sometimes feels like all hope is lost. And because of it, I believe it’s one of the many reasons why people are starting to avoid or cut out social media entirely. But, for us cat lovers, we often turn to social media in hopes of seeing photos of cute kitty cats to hopefully spread some joy into our days and maybe even make us smile.

For one absolutely adorable kitty named Nora Jean—AKA Nora Jean the Earless Queen—she’s sure to brighten your day. I found her while scrolling on Instagram, and instantly knew I needed to feature her on the site so that others could bask in her radiant glow and feel warm and fuzzy inside. Her dedicated cat parents were gracious enough to answer my questions about her, so keep reading to learn all about this unique feline who will warm your heart.

A little back story first on this special feline, shared on her Instagram in January of 2021…

One year ago.
One year ago, these are the pictures that started it all.
I was frantically texting at work with my friend trying to make this happen while having a horrific panic attack because I knew I needed this cat.
And it did happen.
This cat has changed my life.
From being on The Kelly Clarkson Show to her pictures and story being shared all over the world, it’s been a wild year.
But I hope to GOD I get at least 50 more years with this cat.
Thank you to @ashdc98 for knitting those ears and helping catapult Nora to stardom!
And thank you @dchsgiveshelter for giving me my best friend.

Can you please tell me the story of how Nora Jean came into your life?

I’m a certified veterinary technician and I was at work on my lunch and I saw her up-for-adoption post on Dane County Humane Society’s Facebook and I freaked out. She was so absolutely perfect. I commented saying I wanted her, but I was living in Milwaukee at the time and a friend of mine offered to grab her for me! My wife met my friend halfway and Nora came right to me at work for bloodwork and to check her FIV/FELV status so she could meet our other cat.

How did you come up with her cute name?

I was thinking of “something No Ears” and Nora popped into my head. Nora No Ears! And now she’s Nora Jean the Earless Queen!

What is her personality like?

She is the MOST chill cat I’ve ever met. She has no fear, no self-preservation whatsoever. She just walks up to dogs, cats, and people. She sleeps like 23 hours per day. Nothing upsets her.

What are her favorite hobbies?

Sleeping. It’s sleeping. And making biscuits. And snuggling our 2 dogs.

Does she have any dog or cat housemates at home?

We have an entire zoo here! We have Matilda the three-legged pittie, Jelly the one-eyed Shih Tzu, Ramona the 3 legged kitten…and Doodles who has all her parts but lacks empathy. She’s a real pill. 😂 We also have 7 lizards, 2 guinea pigs, and 3 fishtanks! Being a CVT comes at a price.

There are many cats out there which are unique in their own way. There are cats that lead double lives, cats that do tricks, and even cats that have a thing for stealing things that aren’t theirs! Juno is one of those cats that’s got a tendency to take things that aren’t hers—or her family’s!

That’s right, Juno is a cat burglar! But, if you ask me, she’s the most purrfect kind.

Keep reading to learn the story of Juno—AKA Juno the Klepto Cat!

Meet Juno “the Klepto Kat,” a domestic short hair, black and white tuxedo girl. Discovered and fostered in West Los Angeles, CA, from a feral litter of five, she found her fur-ever home in 2015 at the residence in the Geston’s in Carpinteria CA. Born in early May, Cinco De Mayo, 5/5/15 was chosen as her birthday. First named Indiana (Jones) by her foster parents for her adventurous ways and curiosity, and renamed to Juno because they got her in June, she was small and feisty. But her adventurous ways didn’t just disappear simply because of a name change. She went from Juno, “the Small Cat” to Juno, The Klepto Kat.

Juno was not your typical sweet loving kitty. Taken early from her orphaned litter mates, at about 5-weeks, she had to learn new social skills and adjust to the human life. Keeping her as an inside pet was quite challenging, she attacked, scratched & would bite anything that was within her site.

Eventually, she was allowed to go out on small outdoor adventures, supervised by family. They notice that her kitty attacks begin to decrease as she starts to become more calm. Her outside time increased, and by six months she had transformed into a more loving, less wild, sweet kitty.

Over the years, she became more independent. She learned that the outside world was hers for the taking, so she set her own schedule going out early mornings to cruise the neighborhood. Like clockwork, she comes home at both breakfast and dinner time. She sleeps a lot during the day whether outside or inside, and is usually home at dark and grabs herself a bedtime snack before settling in for the night.

Fast forward a few years, the family started noticing rubber gloves, rags, toys and balls showing up in the backyard, thinking that the neighbors’ kids may have thrown them over. In June of 2019 (approximately 4 years to the day she was adopted), they shared their first social media post of her collecting habits.

Little did they know, it was the beginning of her kleptomania adventures. At the time, they had only really noticed a few things which quickly went from 10 in June to 60 in October, and by the end of 2019 she had collected over 132 items!

She enjoys cruising the neighborhood in the early mornings—especially on Thursdays (trash days)—scouting around for loose trash and treasures to bring home and add to her collection. Spring through early fall tends to be her most productive months, and she has proclaimed spring as her “Official Klepto Season.”

In September 2019 she caught the eye of a local news anchor for KEYT, an ABC affiliate; who contacted the family and asked to run a story on her.

One month later, The Santa Barbara Independent did feature a story on her ; a follow up story ran in January of 2020, and again in August of 2020. Two months later in October 2020 , she made the front page of Santa Barbara New Press, making her one of the most popular candidate’s stories running for office!

In August 2020, they began to capture on video her daily routine, in the early morning before 8am and early evening she would “drag, drop, and flop” things she had found. The “drag, drop, and flop” became a regular observation, with her loud meows, announcing she had something to share. She would carry or drag things home, drop them, and then flop next to them with pride. So, it became a “Drag, Drop and Flop” Youtube playlist. She is a very loved cat from her home and the community and will continue on her daily adventures sharing her love with whatever she brings home!

When the pandemic hit, she began bringing home used plastic gloves, face masks, sani-wipes along with her other findings gaining community admiration and respect for “cleaning up the hood”.

It seemed to bring a smile to everyone during the ‘Stay Safe, Stay Home” times. Friends and neighbors would joke about how she kept cleaning up the hood and that ‘we could use someone like this in politics. Late summer 2020, they decided to support Juno in a run in Paw-li-tics as honorary mayor and a smile campaign in their coastal town. With all the stuff that’s been going on in the whole community and having to stay in, they thought it would be fun to throw her paws in the political ring, though she couldn’t legally run because she’s not 18 (36 in human years), she’s not a registered voter, and she’s a cat!

However, this didn’t stop the determined klepto-cat from doing her civic duty as a Carpinteria resident.

Juno got a red cat campaign stroller and they would hit the streets giving out “VOTE FUR HER – The Purrfect Choice” buttons, window posters, and yard signs. Juno ran to clean up the community using sanitation, recycling & litter (no pun intended) control as her cat campaign especially with all the gloves, masks, and disinfectant wipes being left all over the city.

She had proposed that once things get back to normal she would like to work towards organizing and leading Klepto Klean -Up Krew in her community. While her name didn’t make it onto the ballot on Election Day, Juno the Klepto Kat hopes to continue to raise awareness for cleaning up Carpinteria and the environment as a whole.

Currently, Juno has managed to gather a collection from gloves to rags to trash and some very random finds, including:

A leather knife holder, astro turf, safety vest, combs, stuff toys, and kids clothing, reaching over 500 pieces in 2020, and in March 2021, her latest “loot” count has reached almost 700 since she began in June 2019.

Five Of The Largest Cat Breeds

While the average domestic cat stands between 9 and 10 inches tall and weighs about 10 pounds, there are some cat breeds that stand out thanks to their size. These massive members of the cat world are typically gentle giants that are favorites among cat lovers. They’re bigger than most small dog breeds and aren’t afraid to let their bulk take up the whole bed. These big cats give us even more feline fur to love on, and it’s time we highlighted exactly what makes them special.

Here’s a list of the largest cat breeds that would love to be part of your life.

Maine Coon

These New England natives are the giants of the domestic cat world. Weighing in at an impressive 20+ pounds, these big cats make other adult felines look like little kittens. Part of their bulk is definitely thanks to their luxurious-looking fluff, but they’re also built to be naturally longer and heavier than most cat breeds.

In fact, many Maine Coon cats hold Guinness Book World Records for their size. A Maine Coon named Barivel currently holds the title as the “Longest Cat in the World.” Their average height is typically between 10 and 16 inches, and regards to weight, a Maine Coon cat could weigh up to 25 pounds and still be perfectly healthy.

Norwegian Forest Cat

When it comes to largest cat breeds, don’t get a Maine Coon confused with a Norwegian Forest cat. These two big cat breeds have similar looks thanks to their big bodies and long fur. But while the Maine Coon is the official cat breed of Maine, the Norwegian Forest cat, or “Wedgie” as they’re affectionately called, has a thrilling history alongside Vikings. It’s believed that the breed first arrived in the United States with Lief Erickson himself.

Thanks to thousands of years of natural selection, the Wedgie is a sturdy, powerful cat that can survive harsh winters. Their beautiful fur coat looks good, and it also serves an important purpose. It keeps them warm even in thick snow, and there are still pockets of free-roaming cats that live happily on their own in Scandinavian forests. They’re perfectly capable of surviving on their own, and even look a little wild, but these big cats are 100% domesticated and have no wild or hybrid DNA in their lineage.

Savannah

While the Norwegian Forest cat gets its bulk mostly through natural selection, the Savannah cat has had help from a wild cat cousin. This large cat breed is a cross between a domestic cat and an African cat called a Serval. Medium-sized with large ears, there’s no doubt that Servals are cute. They are, however, wild animals. They should never be subjected to life as a house cat. Forcing a wild animal to act domesticated is cruel, and it usually leads to dangerous situations.

Most of today’s Savannah cats are several generations separated from their wild ancestors. They stand 10-17 inches tall and can weigh anywhere from 12 to 25 pounds. Their wild heritage gives them a uniquely black spotted coat pattern, and they have large, rounded ears and impressively long legs.

Ragdoll

Lauded in many circles as one of the most beautiful cat breeds around, Ragdoll cats are gentle giants with stunningly fluffy coats. Their fluff assuredly adds to their size, but even without all that hair, an adult male Ragdoll can weigh up to 20 pounds. The females are typically smaller, but at 15 pounds, they’re still considered one of the largest cat breeds.

One of the most interesting facts about the Ragdoll is how they earn their name. They’re especially friendly and affectionate, and they literally collapse into the arms of their favorite people. They end up acting like limp rag dolls, and this endearing behavior has stolen many hearts around the world.

Chausie

The last cat on this list of largest cat breeds is one you might not have heard of before. The Chausie looks exotic with its large eyes and big ears. Those features come from a distant jungle cat ancestor that was originally used to develop the breed. Records show they date all the way back to the ancient Egyptians. They weren’t recognized by The International Cat Association, however, until 1995.

Today’s Chausies are still classified as a non-domestic hybrid breed, even though they’re mostly descended from domestic cats. They weigh between 15 and 20 pounds and can stand up to 18 inches tall. Their long, slender bodies and large ears make them look like they belong in the wild, but most Chausies are affectionate and loyal toward people.

After Her Cat Was Killed By Off-Leash Dogs, “Daisy’s Law” Hopes To Make Change

As a person who writes about cats, I come across many stories about our feline friends. Some are happy, some funny, and others heartbreaking. Unfortunately, this is one of those sad tales that will pull at your heartstrings. But, if we come together, there can be a silver lining and a hope that more sad stories like this one become far less common.

Daisy was a beautiful black and white cat that was sweet and adored by her family. But recently, all that changed when two aggressive off-leash dogs viciously attacked her right on her front porch at her home on private property. (Please spare your comments on indoor/outdoor cats as this is not the focus here.)

Poor Daisy fell victim to her wounds as the attack proved to be too much for her little body to handle. And worst of all, the owner of these dogs didn’t care or bat an eyelash. The laws in the UK where Daisy lived do not require prosecution for the owners of animals which attack other animals. As it stands now, it is only punishable by fine. And worst of all, it’s only a fine of £200. While heartbroken and grieving, Vicky still knew that she needed to do something to bring attention to her cat’s tragedy. She thought to start a petition on Change.org, hoping that she could hopefully make a difference. Other cat owners, and even dog owners, have certainly taken notice of her efforts. As of this post, her petition is at 12,456 signatures and quickly growing.

Daisy's Law

The details of the petition for Daisy’s Law is as follows:

This petition is to highlight and change the fact that animal on animal attack is not classed as serious enough by the Police to prosecute irresponsible animal owners. At the moment they can only be fined. My lovely cat, Daisy (11 Years old) was viciously attacked on our doorstep (private property) TOTALLY unprovoked by two dogs (not on leads) on the Monyhull Hall estate, KINGS NORTON, B30 on 9/6/2020 at around 2.05pm. The woman walking the dogs (3 in total) refused to give her details after the attack and walked off saying that she had no money so I couldn’t sue her and she didn’t care. Daisy was critical in ICU for 6 days then her condition worsened. We had to make the heartbreaking decision to have her put to sleep. I have since posted this attack on various social media platforms to try to locate this woman, to get justice and in doing so it has come to light that this isn’t the first time that her dogs have attacked and one other cat that I know of has been killed (attack witnessed) and smaller dogs chased, mothers moving their children away from the dogs and cyclists have had their ankles nipped at. The owners response is always total contempt and not interested in leashing or muzzling her animals. She was fined £200!! THATS IT!! Do we have to wait until these attacks turn on a child ? Lets make a difference, PLEASE SIGN!! Thank you.

Daisy's Law

A community protection warning has since been served to the dogs’ owner, but that is simply not enough and more like a slap on the wrist if anything. More must be done so stories like this don’t keep popping up on our feeds and breaking our hearts.

Vicky knows that she’s fighting an uphill battle, but if we come together to show our support for her cause, perhaps we can give her the push she needs to make this well overdue change to animal attack laws. Daisy’s suffering and death will not be in vain if I have anything to do with it. My heart goes out to Vicky during this difficult time, and I would like to personally thank her for allowing me to feature Daisy’s tragic tale on cattitudedaily.com. I myself have experienced a situation similar to this, and I know just how badly it hurts. And the mental image never, ever leaves your mind.

No matter where you are in the world, there are bound to be irresponsible pet owners. And sadly, ignorance is bliss sometimes for those who own animals and turn a blind eye to their pet’s dangerous behavior. In the US, animal attack laws are governed by state. And some are not even that severe by any means.

Let’s come together to make a difference for dear Daisy, a lovely kitty who was gone far too soon.

Did you know that there are a few cat breeds that love water? It might come as a surprise to some people, but for anyone who has ever owned one of these cat breeds, they can vouch for them.

Maine Coon

I have a Maine Coon mix that isn’t super crazy about water, but there are many Maine Coon cats that are actually quite fond of it. The Maine Coon comes in on my list of cat breeds that love water because many of these cats are simply fascinated with H2O.

But for anyone who has ever owned a Maine Coon cat, then you know these loveable big cats simply do as they please. A Maine Coon is a naturally curious breed of cat, and they like to investigate things that trigger their hardwired sense of intense curiosity. They are the largest breed of cat that there is, and they retain a kitten like playfulness throughout much of their life. Which makes sense when you think about it, as these large felines don’t fully mature until roughly three years of age.

These cats are fascinated with the world around them, and they enjoy engaging with things that catch their interest. And water? That’s certainly a thing of interest on their priority list!

Norwegian Forest Cat

These Viking cats might be drawn to water because it’s simply been a way of life for them since they were first bred. The Norwegian Forest Cat, AKA Viking Cat, would sail the high seas back in the time of the Vikings to help cull the rat population while out at sea. In addition to this, they were thought to be good luck charms that Vikings believed would grant them safe passage during their travels.

The Norwegian Forest cat has survived for centuries in the harsh Scandinavian climate. These cats are quite large, but they are agile and quick on their feet. And that long and lustrous coat of theirs? Well, it’s actually waterproof, too. The water repealing feature of their coat comes in handy when they are hunting in streams trying to score their daily catch of fresh fish. If you consider getting one of these large and lovely cats, you might want to second guess that should you also have a fishtank in your home…just saying.

Turkish Angora

If you’ve ever owned a Turkish Angora cat, then you know just how much these cats love water. The Turkish Angora isn’t afraid to go for a swim either, despite that flowy fur of theirs. These graceful and silky felines are drawn to water and will come running at the sound of it. The national cat breed of Turkey, this ancient cat breed is fun, free-spirited, and loves to frolic in water often.

These playful cats are also highly intelligent, so if they observe their owner turning on the sink, they will often teach themselves how to do it, too. Cats love everything at peak freshness, and a Turkish Angora is no different. The only difference is, constant running water might give way to a hefty water bill and a cat that has no remorse for it.

For those Turkish Angora cat owners, there are many times that their cats will even join them for a swim in a swimming pool. These cats are natural swimmers, with long, lean, and muscular bodies that propel them with ease throughout the water.

Bengal

The bengal is an interesting cat in so many ways. Not only are they wicked smart and super vocal, but they love water, too. These mini tigers are drawn to it like laser beams sucking them right in. And they’re particularly fond of running water from the faucet. These kitties don’t mind getting their paws wet or even having a good romp in shallow water. Which is why many will hop right in the bath or shower.

When it comes to their water bowls, don’t be surprised if they’re quick to make a mess. These cats are driven by their insatiable love of play, and water just gives them something more to play with…or in.

Turkish Van

Not only do these cats look cool, but they are super cool, too. These white ring-tailed cats with plumed tails are known by many for their affinity for water. And because of their love of swimming, they top many lists—mine included—of cat breeds that love water. The explanation for their love of water is not completely known. But some suggest they developed a fondness for it when swimming for fish in Lake Van located in far east Turkey.

This beautiful and ancient breed of cat are nicknamed “swimming cats” and it’s easy to see why if you’ve ever seen one in action. But what’s most interesting about these cats and their love of water is that they are genetically designed to be excellent swimmers. They are larger bodied cats with broad shoulders, and they’re top heavy which pushes their center of gravity forward. Which, you guessed it, makes them like the Michael Phelps of cats. These athletic cats have lots of energy, and swimming is the perfect way for them to pass the time in a way they naturally love. Because if they’re stuck indoors and boredom hits, they’ll be sure to climb and act crazy and send your valuables flying.

Owners Credit Their Cat For Helping Them Win Million Dollar Lottery

If you were to win the lottery, what’s the first thing you would buy your cat? Okay, okay, cats, because we know that none of us has just one! For me, I’d buy my cats a really badass cat tree. But for Andrew and Paula Hancock out of the UK, they will likely be buying their ginger tabby, Shortcakes, a whole lot more than cat trees! Reason being? Well, if not for him, they wouldn’t be lottery winners!

And that is very true, because the whole reason for his outing was to fetch shortcake some cat food from the corner store as he and his wife had recently left the supermarket and forgotten to pick some up for sweet Shortcake.

Check out this adorable video where the Hancock’s tell BBC reporters about their purrfect payday!

Shortcake—AKA Shorty—as he and his wife lovingly call him, is their family cat of six years. And what’s even funnier is that Andrew forgot the cat food once more, but in this case, it seems that he had a purrfect exception—pure excitement!

“So I thought, ‘I’ll get straight home and go out for the cat food and get that later on.’ Which we didn’t, so he had ham…He was quite happy with that.”

BBC News inquired about Shortcake, to see if there was anything particular they should know about this honorary feline. His pet parents claimed that he’s “just a normal cat,” but that he does “like and fight” and is keen to “keep everybody up at night.” Thankfully their patience and understanding of the feline mind paid off, and we’re sure those nights spent awake were certainly worth it!

As for their plans with their winnings? They’ve purchased a phone for their twelve-year-old son, Xavier, and intend to book an extended vacation to Australia. We’re sure that lucky Shortcake will be in the best of hands while they’re away!. Only the finest cat hotel for a cat that wins the lottery!
